This is a great article to read on how to implement and maintain a competency model. I just attended a workshop on the lominger competency architect system. This model was very useful in that there is a card sort system that allows groups or individuals determine which competencies are critical, nice to have or least important for different jobs. Going through this type of exercise when creating a job profile/posting is critical as the key to having a great company is having the right person in the right job.
